On Tuesday, one of the veteran performers for HMDC and Taste of Victory, Commissioner D., made his first start for trainer Justin Radosevich. Facing accredited state-breds for a $7,500 tag he recorded his sixth career win and going over the $100,000 mark while recording her career-best Beyer Speed figure as a 5-year-old mare.
With a “Strike while the iron is Hot” philosophy, Justin found a $35,800 allowance race for accredited-breds on Wednesday that fits Commissioner D. and is also open to another partnership horse – Fortheloveofbonnie. After starting her career with a first-out win exactly, two years to the day, her career has been spotty and the 4-year-old filly has been on the shelf since Christmas Eve. It looks like Justin has her back on track as Fortheloveofbonnie recorded a “bullet” workout at 4-furlongs on June 10th. “Bonnie” will break from post 7 with David Haldar up and Jose Bracho is named on “The Commish” and they will break from the 4 chute in the first race of the day (12:50 pm).
On Tuesday, HMDC’s Countess Colette will try to make it two wins in a row in the 4th race, a $38,400 Allowance sprint for Ohio registered fillies and mares. She’s coming out of a $50,000 claiming event where she won driving by 2 1⁄2 lengths, while moving up in class. This is a well matched group of distaffers, Countess Colette’s $166,167 in earnings is an average for this field. The Mapleton-bred miss will be ridden by Luis Rivera for conditioner Mike Rone.
“The Race was for Place”...two HMDC and Taste of Victory runners went shopping for their third win last week but came home with the silver medal. On Thursday, I Belong First tried to make it two-in-a-row and led for the entire six furlongs...sadly the race was a mile. She held on gamely to hold the second spot. On Monday Over the Falls also went shopping for her second straight win. She fought hard with the leader in the early going and then altered course to the 2-path, but it was not enough to catch the heavy 1-2 favorite. They still pay the owners for second and the duo put $7,860 into the partnership coffers.
