HMDC and partners Taste of Victory and The Belmont Curve (TBC) Racing are enjoying a fine first-half at the races and with the bookkeeper. DOMINUS – CHAMPION OHIO STALLION SUCCUMBS AT 18

Three-time Ohio Stallion of the Year Dominus passed away unexpectedly at Duncan Farms in Warsaw, Ohio it was announced this week. The 18-year-old son of Smart Strike had been standing privately at the farm for the past several seasons after being moved from Dr. George Sikora’s Mapleton Farm in Polk, Ohio. Upon his retirement, Dominus initially stood stud at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. “It came to us as a complete surprise,” spoke farm owner Daryl Duncan. “Last week he looked like a healthy 12-year-old. We had scaled back the number of mares he covered over the past two seasons to our partnership horses and a select few to longtime supporters of his.” Dominus entered stud in 2013 and has progeny earnings of $17,449,867 (average per starter: $75,869) with 14 stakes winners and 14 stakes-place runners. He has 20 reported foals in 2025. Most familiar to regional breeders are Dominus’ Ohio divisional champions Candlelight Hours ($607,610, 12 wins, 4 stakes); five-time stakes winner Amadevil

Dominus was a versatile runner, effective from 7 furlongs to 11⁄8 miles, with tactical speed and strong finishing ability. He captured the Bernard Baruch H.(G2) –Saratoga (age 4) and the Dwyer S. (G2) – Belmont (age 3) and placed in the Derby Trial S. (G3) – Churchill Downs and Jim Dandy S. (G2) – Saratoga for earnings of $444,717.
