Smokin C Thoroughbreds
Relentlessly striving for excellence
Professionally, Stephen Chumney has led a career as an Electrical Engineer. But he never lost the passion instilled in him when he began working on a farm at the age of 11. Through the influence of mentors, including his grandfather Gene Chumney, a quarter horse and thoroughbred trainer, he learned first-hand what goes into the development of horses to grow and run competitively.
Located in Stark County, Ohio at Smokin’ C Thoroughbreds, Stephen focuses his goals around excellent breeding, nutrition, and individualized care. He raises both Accredited and Ohio Registered foals with the belief that they should be able to compete in the Graded Stakes race levels and he that has the target with each decision made. His homebreds have gone on to win consistently in Ohio as well as at the Fairgrounds, Churchill Downs. He has raised six figure weanlings, yearlings and 2-year-olds. Raising foals with this same process to race in the HMDC partnership should enhance the offerings greatly.
Stephen Chumney sums up his approach succinctly, “I build business by being consistently authentic and relentlessly striving for excellence in everything that I do. I surround myself with honest people that have a lot of positive energy. Winning has been the result of this formula.”
