2025 HMDC Partners
There’s a time-tested axiom in the world of racing, “It’s better to own part of a good horse, than all of a bad one.” With a diminishing annual foal crop and the costs of getting a healthy horse to the races, those words have lent to the growth of partnerships in the business at all levels. HMDC is always looking for partners to join in the risk and reward of thoroughbred racing.
It’s best to approach these ventures with those that have an understanding of the sport and in 2025 HMDC has found a perfect partners in Taste of Victory Stables and The Belmont Curve.
TASTE OF VICTORY STABLES
Taste of Victory Stables was founded by Kyle Yost and Brian Richardson. Yost started looking into syndicates around the country and could find no low dollar thresholds, “ There were no partnerships like MyRacehorse at the time.” He created his own in 2005 and Taste of Victory began in 2010 evolving into a racing partnership that raced coast to coast in over 1,500 starts with over 200 horses. “It’s been fairly extensive, we’ve run some good horses and have even run in the Breeders’ Cup a couple of times.”
Kyle examined what HMDC had to offer shareholders and thought it would be a good fit with his program. “I love this Ohio racing and the syndicate,” he said emphatically. “I love everything that’s going on. I’ve narrowed my focus to the mid-Atlantic region, but I want to stay in Ohio. I look at value proposition – look at purses, day rates, vet expenses and things and we came up with West Virginia and Ohio as your best values in the country, so that’s where I’m focused.”
"There’s significant action with HMDC, especially in the accredited market. You don’t need a Kentucky Derby winner to make an impact.” Yost embraces the partnership plan with a realistic and upbeat approach, “This is not our (Taste of Victory) primary job, we’re just trying to make it fun for everybody.” The socialization aspect of a partnership can be a key factor to its success. They are getting into the game, and hopefully, those people are getting a good enough experience that they want to go and get some equity ownership in something like HMDC or Taste of Victory.”

THE BELMONT CURVE
With the Bell Curve, the highest point on the curve, or the top of the bell, represents the most probable event in a series of data. Putting an equine spin on that definition, a trio of partners have established The Belmont Curve.

Cory Leslie, was a standout athlete from his early days in Ohio and went on to be ranked In the top 8 at the World Cross Country Championships and won a Bronze Medal in the Pan American Games. Cory is a professional track and field coach for Under Armour and is currently training some of the best distance runners in the world. Jackson Lewis adds another dimension to the group as Computer Science major with specialties in computer vision and machine learning. Brent Leslie is the CFO of a major national development group and brings a strong business acumen to the program. His professional experience has given him the recognition of the advantages of partnerships.
Every company has an origin story, usually driven by a crazy idea or a revolutionary insight, theirs looks a little different. Sparked as a result of the barren sports world created by the 2020 pandemic, their interest in thoroughbred racing had steadily increased over the years. And while this fascination seemed arbitrary at first, a brief consideration of their backgrounds provides some explanation. Having both run in professional track and field, “run fast, turn left” has been woven into their souls for their entire lives and now they’ve found horse racing to be no different. With their interest peaked, they founded The Belmont Curve in 2021 with the goal of becoming further involved in the sport.
The Belmont Curve has Developed software to extract, process, and clean biomechanical data from video, Developed software to extract, process, and clean biomechanical data from video, Extracted data from 500+ two-year-olds purchased for $100k+ at Spring OBS sales and Performed initial, surface-level investigation into the efficacy of using biomechanical metrics to improve two-year-old evaluation. They are currently working on expanding their dataset to 5000+ two-year-olds from various sales, allowing for enhanced statistical analysis of the intricate relationships between various metrics. They continue to explore opportunities to biomechanically track thoroughbreds in training, with a special focus on how a horse progresses throughout a training regimen.
