Mike Rone
HMDC Trainer
Mike handles the TMD colts and geldings and he still gallops every horse in his barn. He entered the equine world through the rugged sport of barrel racing at a young age. Eventually he teamed up with Kingpin Kerry, who was inducted into the Barrel Horse Hall of Fame. While still in his teens, Mike became an apprentice and eventually branched out on his own as a farrier, all while still galloping 12 to 14 horses a day.
“Shoeing is a big factor in my diagnosis of our horses,” said Rone. “That factor combined with the hands-on experience of getting up on them each day lends great insight to their conditioning. Join that with good help and God’s blessing and we’ve done quite well.” Horses trained by Rone have won over $1 million in three of the last six years while maintaining a 20% win rate.
