CLOSE CALLS FOR COMMISSIONER D AND I BELONG FIRSTSPUN IN DOMINUS SEEKS REDEMPTION

Two of our stable runners took tough beats last week while putting in solid effort. Commissioner D was looking for her fourth win in a row, and I Belong First came “that close”, while looking for that first win of the season.

Commissioner D relaxed early for Jose Bracho and tried to launch a last to first win and came up a fast-closing 2 lengths short of her goal in a $38,400 Allowance sprint while facing registered competition. I Belong First took the opposite approach and tried to wire the field, racing for $21,400 with a $16,000 tag. She set all the pace and started to tire late while drifting out in the final 1/16th and was nailed at the wire by a neck to be a well clear 2nd. Both are to be commended for their performances and are in good form for conditioner Justin Radosevich.

Spun in Dominus heads to post in the first race on Wednesday. Racing for HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Racing. The day’s opener carries a $32,000 purse for sprinters racing with a hefty $50,000 claiming price. The 3-year-old Mapleton-bred daughter of the recently deceased Dominus put in a head scratching effort in her last start. She appeared to be giving her rider a hard time in the early going while pressing the pace, only to weaken when they got to the stretch. Trainer Mike Rone will make one change going into Wednesday’s opener – he’s employed the services of top Thistledown jockey Erik Barbarian for the ride.
