For the second week in a row, we started off with a win! It was Gray Perfection’s turn to get his photo taken on Monday. The Huntertown-bred by Creative Cause faced familiar registered foes, as over half the field were coming out of the same race. This would be the gray 3-year-old filly’s second start of the season, second on Lasix and second start with blinkers, she turned that combo into a first.

With Luis Rivera in the irons, she broke straightaway and had close company throughout while leading the field by no more than a length to the head of the lane. Confidently ridden, the winning margin was 1 1⁄2 lengths and the Mike Rone trainee now has a record of 6-2-1-1 for $55,498.

On Tuesday the 12th Commissioner D. proved he was ready for step up in class as he faced accredited-breds that were shopping for their 4th career win or first of the year while racing with a $16,000 tag. Jockey Mauro Cedillo was in no rush early and let the field of eight go on without him and “The Commish”. He began scrubbing on the 5-year-old’s neck at the 3-furlong marker and got the response he wanted.

As if taking one stride to the other’s two, the Mapleton-bred shot off the rail and drew away to an eye-popping 2 1⁄4 length victory over the odds-on favorite. The HMDC and Taste of Victory runner was saddled by trainer Megan Fadlovich and chalked up his 5th career win to push his career earnings to $92,923 for the team.

The following day at Thistledown it was Rogues a Plotting’s turn to shine a light on our operation. Owned by HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Racing, the 3-year-old by Dominus took on a field of 10 going six furlongs for a hefty $50,000 claiming price. It was a heady ride by Luis Rivera who broke crisply with the Mike Rone trainee and placed him forwardly along the rail just off the heavily favored pacesetter. As Rivera made a move along the inside going into the turn, jockey Luis Gonzales on the leader tightened up the space along the rail. Undeterred, Rogues a Plotting bulled his way through and left the chalk in the dust while scoring by 1 1⁄2 lengths over older rivals.

The Mapleton-bred gelded son of Dominus is trained by Mike Rone. He has now sports a record of 6-3-1-0 for $66,437 in earnings and looks ready for the challenges that he will face during the season. It was a great week at the races for all involved. We’ll reload the barn and start shooting for the next target. It’s good to own an Ohio-bred.
