HALF-BROTHER TO MULTIPLE GRADED STAKES WINNER TO DEBUT FOR THE PARTNERSHIP ON WEDNESDAY

DR. SPIRITO
DR. SPIRITO

With first-time starters, there’s not a whole lot to rely on in the Daily Racing Form other than a series of workouts. For a 2-year-old gelding named Dr. Spirito, who will race in Mahoning Valley’s 5th race on Wednesday, you need a pedigree page to get your information. The gray Mapleton-bred has plenty of speed coursing through his veins.

A son of leading Ohio stallion Dominus out of Love Spun by Hard Spun, Dr. Spirito is a half-brother to the Multiple Graded Stakes Winner – Special Reserve. That consistently fast gelding ran his race every time he went to post, with a forte for six furlongs, and he didn’t have to carry his track with him. Case in point: Grade 2 Phoenix (Keeneland) 1:08.54; Gr. 3 Maryland Sprint Stakes (Pimlico) 1:08.91; Iowa Sprint Stakes(Prairie Meadows)1:08.14; Sen. Robt. Byrd Memorial Stakes(Mountaineer) 1:08.84. The speedy Special Reserve retired with a record of 26-9-2-7 for $789,746.

Dr. Spirito’s female family is not a one trick pony. His dam, Love Spun, is a half-sister to two accomplished sprinters - Original Spin (f. by Distorted Humor). 100. 2 wins at 2, $273,816, Arlington-Washington Breeders' Cup Lassie S. [G3] (AP, $90,000), 2nd Darley Test S. Zing S.-R (FP, $24,420), 2nd Kentucky Cup Sprint S. [G3] (TP, $20,000), Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity-R (HAW, $23,070), Land of Lincoln S.-R (HAW, $17,640), 3rd Southwest S. [L] (OP, $10,000). Divine Comic (c. by Distorted Humor).100.Part of HMDC’s 2024 partnership program adds Taste of Victory Stable and TBC Racing’s to the ownership team of Dr. Spirito. Trained by Megan Fadlovich, jockey David Haldar has the call on our first-time starter.

“AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME!”

That would be the stretch at Mahoning Valley for the rest of the racing season in Ohio. Ourtwo starters in the recent Best of Ohio races both returned safe and sound, but a little dirty, to their respective trainers after the races.

In the $100,000 Best of Ohio Galbreath Juvenile, 2-year-olds were stretching around two turns for the first time, and the race was to the swift. The top three finishers led throughout the race.“Our horse rated well, but we got into a position where it was just too hard to make up all of that ground,” stated trainer Mike Rone. “It’s asking a lot of a 2-year-old, but Gray Perfection came out of the race just fine. There are several opportunities ahead for her before the meet ends.”

Countess Colette gave a good account of herself considering the facts that she was an Accredited-bred facing Registered company and it was only her third start of the season. “I was very proud of that little filly's performance getting beat only 3 1⁄2 lengths,” said conditioner Megan Fadlovich. “This was a great prep for the $75,000 Accredited Stake on the 13th - the Leona's Reward for 3-Year-Old & up Accredited here at a mile.”
