Take a break from Wednesday’s chores and grab a cool tumbler of lemonade to watch two of our runners run at Thistledown. At 2:50 pm Dr. George will break from the gate in the 5th race, a $35,800 allowance event for Accredited-breds at 6 furlongs. Megan will remove the blinkers. The good “Dr.” went a mile in his last start, got to the lead into the stretch and while passed late, engaged in a battle for second and lasted by a head over his old barn buddy Smokin Joe. Anthony Nunez gets the return call on the 2-1 pick on the morning line. Don’t touch that dial! Coming up at 4:20 pm is the 8th race and we get to see if Smokin Joe can deliver his knockout punch. The Mike Rone trainee won’t be in the ring with his former paddock pal, but he will be making the same move by stepping back from a mile to six panels. Facing seven rivals, he has been installed at favorable odds of 5-2 with leading rider Luis Rivera in the irons.
