HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Racing celebrated two victories at Mahoning Valley on Monday. The similarities between the partnership’s 3-year-old geldings, Dr. Spirito and Rogues a Plotting are uncanny. They were both bred at Mapleton Farm in Polk, Ohio within 30 days of each other and are sons of Dominus, who stands at Duncan Farms in Warsaw. When the time came, they were shipped to South Carolina and learned their early lessons together. The pair each started at two and put in promising pace pressing performances before the winter break – and an extended one at that, with both being entered in races that twice were cancelled. Monday’s races for Accredited Ohio-bred carried the same $31,800 purse at the distance of six furlongs. Both of our runners were making their 3-year-old debut racing with Lasix for the first time. As for the races themselves, they were mirror image performances. In each of their events, Rogues a Plotting and Dr. Spirito were sent away as odds-on favorites, broke sharply and quickly took control of the tempo, shook off challenges from several rivals around the turn and in the lane drew away convincingly. To emphasize their amazing similarities, here is a look at their running line and times at each point of call.

Rogues a Plotting–23.52 47.85 1:00.38 1:13.79–WON by 41⁄2 lengths.

Dr. Spirito - 23.66 47.46 1;00.05 1:13.08 – WON BY 7 3⁄4 lengths.

Cannot get much closer than that! There are some differences between our current stable stars. Dr. Spirito is trained by Megan Fadlovich and was ridden by Rocco Bowen while Rogues a Plotting comes out of the Rone barn and was piloted by their regular rider Luis Rivera. Their performances showed quick flight from the gate, pace-rating ability, while digging in determinedly when challenged to go on to widening wins. These performances certainly look like bright signals of even better things to come!

GALLOPING OUT...while Dr. Spirito and Rogues a Plotting stole the show on Monday, HMDC and Taste of Victory’s Commissioner D did her best to pitch in on the stable feed bill. Now a 5-year-old mare, the daughter of Mobil was competing against a field of Accredited distaffers, running for a $17,500 purse with a $6,500 claiming price. With Mauro Cedillo in

the saddle, Commissioner D bobbled at the start and “could see ‘em all” down the

backstretch while forced to go six-wide into the stretch. The Mapleton-bred showed good signs of vigor in the final furlong to nail down the show spot and return to the Fadlovich barn to race another day. All in all, it was a fine day of racing for HMDC and their partners who added a total of $39,910 to the stable inventory.
