HMDC and partners will have three chances to add to their bankroll this week. Right out of the gate is Lust for Life who will go to post in Tuesday’s eighth race at Mahoning Valley. Once again, trainer Mike Rone will opt for the added Ohio money by taking on open company, a will 4 of the 9 starters who are Ohio-breds. Lust for Life, a 4-year-old gelded son of Cowtown Cat out of Love Spun by Hard Spun will be turning back to 5 ½ furlongs in this allowance race that holds a $25,900, with $15,000 from the Ohio Thoroughbred Fund. It was almost a year ago that our stakes-placed earner raced at the distance at Mahoning Valley and recorded his best lifetime Beyer Speed Figure. Top rider Luis Rivera will again be back astride our $112,286 earner. We will have to wait a few days for our on-track action to start back up as Dr. Spirito and I Belong First will head to post on Monday the 8th. The highly regarded Dr. Spirito will be bouncing back from his debut where he contended with the speed to the stretch and tired late. The 2-year-old by leading Ohio sire Dominus out of Love Spun by Hard Spun had a hard pill to swallow as he drew the outside post in race 5 for Accredited Ohio-bred maidens. If things look familiar for the HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Racing’s color bearer in the 12-horse field, half the field are coming out of the same race as Dr. Spirito and only the favorite finished in front of him. I Belong First is the second Megan Fadlovich trainee heading to post on Monday. The $35,900 Allowance race for Accredited non-winners of three will be contested at a mile. The last time the 3-year-old daughter of Cowtown Cat went a mile, it turned out to be a wire to wire win. Let’s hope for a repeat on Monday!
