HERE'S WHAT IS AT STAKE FOR OUR RUNNERS THIS WEEK

SPUN IN DOMINUS
SPUN IN DOMINUS

Let’s start with the $75,000 Emerald Necklace Stakes this Thursday at Thistledown for 2-year-old Accredited-breds going six panels. Spun in Dominus drew the outside post in the field of nine after recording her first win in two lifetime starts last out. There are several in the field who are Accredited stakes-placed, but no stakes winners, so this may be the time to shine. David Haldar, who has been aboard for both of her starts, will again get a leg up from trainer Megan Fadlovich for the HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Racing’s colorbearer. With little to go on career-wise, the Mapleton-bred Spun in Dominus may have the edge in pedigree. Here’s a quick review of her family tree, an impressive one for a Accredited-bred. Starting out, she is a daughter of multiple Ohio Stallion of the Year Dominus out of Spun in Artemus by Hard Spun. He is a stakes winner of $2,673,470, King's Bishop S. [G1] (SAR, $150,000), etc. Sire of 12 crops of racing age, 1828 foals, 1344 starters, 88 stakes winners, 1 champion. Sire of dams of 31 stakes winners.

Artemus Kitten the dam of Spun in Artemus is by Kitten's Joy. 107. 5 wins, 3 to 5, $293,322, Bayou H. [L] (FG, $60,000), Ellis Park Turf S. (ELP, $30,000), Jersey Lilly S. (HOU, $30,000), 2nd Modesty H. [G3] (AP, $38,800), Dauphin Miss S. [L] (PEN, $19,200), Jersey Lilly S. (HOU,$10,000), 3rd Hilliard Lyons Doubledogdare S. [G3] (KEE, $10,000), Girls, Inc. of Shelbyville, Shelby County S. [L] (IND, $10,991). She is a full sister to stakes-winners Redwood Kitten and Lisa’s Kitten. Redwood Kitten winner at 2 and 3, $188,688, James W. Murphy S[L(PIM,$60,000), 2nd Jefferson Cup S. [G3] (CD, $21,638), 3rd Del Mar Derby [G2] (DMR, $30,000), Transylvania S. [G3] (KEE, $10,000), Kitten's Joy S. [L] (GP, $10,000) and Lisa’s Kitten 2 wins at 2, $110,918, M2 Technology La Senorita S.

I BELONG FIRST
I BELONG FIRST

We will be watching Friday’s 8th race at Thistledown with trepidation. The race is for two-time winning Accredited-bred fillies and mares going six furlongs and carrying a $32,000 purse. HMDC and Taste of Victory Stables I Belong First is going for her third straight win and is installed as the 9-5 favorite. The cause for concern? The race carries a hefty $50,000 claiming tag.

While our Mapleton-bred 3-year-old miss is going for her third straight victory, she will be turning back from a one-mile wire-to-wire driving win after setting a pedestrian pace. David Haldar will be deputized to quicken her speed while turning back to a sprint for trainer Megan Fadlovich.

Our 4-year-old gelding Lust for Life will head to post earlier in the day in the 2nd race, while stepping out of his comfort zone to tackle open company – and going for the added Ohio money to boot. The multiple stakes-placed performer raced on the front end and held on to finish third in an allowance test last out, while racing 6 furlongs in the slop for $36,500. Trainer Mike Rone will give a leg up to Jan Aviles for the return mount on the Mapleton-bred son of Cowtown Cat looking to add to his $107,607 in earnings.
