Dr. Spirito hopes to get back to the winners with Rocco Bowen in the saddle.

DR. SPIRITO AND ROGUES A PLOTTING TO MATCH STRIDES AT MAHONING ON THURSDAY

They used to race along the fence line at Mapleton Farm in Polk, Ohio. On Thursday, in the fourth race, they will race along the fence line at Mahoning Valley. Rogues a Plotting will break from the rail alongside Dr. Spirito. The 3-year-old duo representing HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Racing have a lot in common at this point in their careers.

They both are sons of leading Ohio sire Dominus; both started at two, displaying a preponderance for the lead; both won their 2026 debut, both are coming off efforts over a muddy surface, and both will have their regular riders in the irons. There is only a $743.00 difference in their earnings.

Dr. Spirito (Dominus-Love Spun-Hard Spun) ran into a buzz saw last out while facing Registered company as the prohibitive favorite scored by 11 1⁄4. After chasing the winner, Dr. Spirito dug in to hold off all other challengers. Sometimes you just have to put a line through a race, and that is the case with the last effort Rogues a Plotting (Dominus-Too Shy Shy-Distorted Humor). After chasing the Registered winner four-wide, jockey Erik Barbaran sensed it wasn’t his gelding’s day and wrapped up, easing him to the wire. Since that start he has had a public workout insuring all is well.

On Thursday, the old paddock pals will get some class relief as they will square off against a field of Accredited-breds that will race 6 furlongs for the $33,700. Jockey Luis Rivera will be reunited with Rogues a Plotting for trainer Penny Rone and regular rider Rocco Bowen will get a leg up from conditioner Megan Fadlovich. The weather is warming – but let’s hope for a “Ice Cold Exacta.”
