3-YEAR-OLD SPUN IN DOMINUS SCORES - BREAKING THE $100,000 MARK

HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Racing’s Spun in Dominus recoded a thrilling stretch long duel with the pacesetter and came away a neck to the best on Labor Day at Thistledown. The $34,000 sprint featured Accredited-bred fillies and mares 3 years old and up looking for their fourth win while racing for $50,000 tag. Spun in Dominus would be stepping out of her comfort zone as she tackled older horses. To our benefit, there were two late vet scratches that shortened the field, but the way Spun In Dominus finished may have had the same result vs. a full field.

After a clean break, Erik Barbaran settled comfortably just off the expected pace setter, not pressing, but letting the leader know they were there. As they entered the turn, Barbaran got serious astride Spun in Dominus, crouching down and encouraging her run. Brandon Tapara on leader Quick Kitty sensed the pressure and did a little race riding into the stretch and fanned four-wide. Barbaran stayed outside and those two engaged in a long stretch battle with Spun in Dominus determinedly sticking his neck out at the wire.

Trainer Mike Rone has entered Spun in Dominus strategically through her career. The result has netted a bankroll of $102,616 from nine starts resulting in four wins, a second and a third.
