Busy week for our Colorbearers

Jockey David Haldar will wear the HMDC colors again on Saturday

Greek Boutique kicked off the week in an Accredited Maiden 2-year-old event at Thistledown. A field of eight entered the gate. Greek Boutique came into the race off of a sharp debut four weeks ago where she ran with the front to the stretch and tired late. On Tuesday, the Megan Fadlovich-trained miss rushed into contention on the inside and jockey David Haldar moved her out three wide. She moved into second, but was no match for the odds-on favorite, though clearly second.

Let’s hope third-time is the charm for this daughter of Cowtown Cat-Becker County Miss-Langhfuhr. She races for the partnership of HDMC and Taste of Victory Stables.

THE RACE WAS FOR PLACE

On Wednesday we had two reasons to root in the third race – Countess Colette and Commissioner D met in the $35,800 Allowance test. The Mike Rone-trained Commissioner D was facing the toughest test – she was coming into the race off a 6-month layoff. Countess Colette came into the race off of a strong late finish to finish third behind a filly who won next time out.

Neither filly was interested in chasing the early lead and both kicked in as they turned into the lane. Commissioner D flashed his late foot first and Countess Colette rallied with a flourish from her patient position in last. The pace setter was loose on the front and cruised to the win, with Fadlovich-conditioned Countess getting her head in front over her barn buddy. Taste of Victory Stable and HMDC own Commissioner D, while Countess Colette is a HMDC sole venture.

According to Megan, “The plan is to point her at the 1m1/16 Turf Miss Southern Ohio Stakes on Sept 20 at Belterra Park against 3yo+ girls. There is no prep race at TDN for the stake. There is another NW2 6f Alw on the 29th. It is a registered race. We have already run third in the registered NW2 Alw, so I am not afraid of the company. I'll instruct Haldar to give her a very strong gallop out after the race to prep for the 20th. This should give us enough air, coupled with am training, to have enough fitness to tackle 1m1/16 in approximately 6 weeks.”

Lofty Cowtown will represent HMDC on Saturday’s special “Best of Ohio” card at Thistledown. She’s listed as one of the favorites in a $28,000 allowance at six-furlongs that will be run as the 7th race. The Mapleton Farm bred 4-year-old captured the $75,000 T.F. Classen in her seasonal debut. She took on open company in her most recent outing and ran a solid second in the field of eight. She’s back against the Buckeyes on Saturday. Hope to see you in the winner’s circle!
