BOTH BARRELS LOADED FOR THE STABLE ON TUESDAY

Spun in Dominus as a yearling at Mapleton Farm
Spun in Dominus as a yearling at Mapleton Farm

You only have a chance to win your third race once – and two of HMDC and Taste of Victory stable’s runners fit that bill at the same time in their career. Three-year-old Spun in Dominus and four-year-old I Belong First will match strides in a $32,000, high-priced $50,000 claiming event carded as the third race.

Both fillies have had their two wins and a placing at Thistledown where they’ve earned over $50,000. Spun in Dominus, though younger, brings the best set of credentials to this 5 1⁄2 furlong sprint. Now racing out of the Mike Rone barn, the daughter of Dominus was stakes-placed as a 2-year-old and has recorded both of her victories at 5 1⁄2 furlongs over the Thistledown strip. This will be her second on Lasix and she will get a new pilot in Luis Rivera.

I Belong First ran a bang-up race at this level two races back where she displayed a front running effort and just missed by a half-length. In that 6-furlong effort, I Belong First posted the fastest Beyer Speed figure of any filly in the field. Jockey Jose Bracho will again ride for trainer Justin Radosevich who is hoping for a return to her April 2 form.

HMDC CONNECTIONS IN THE BEST OF OHIO

While our stable did not have any participants in the first leg of the $500,000 Best of Ohio series at Belterra Park, it did have connections to the winners. Mapleton Farm, the leading breeder where we procure most of our runners, was represented by their homebred Superwolf. You can’t keep ‘em all, and Superwolf runs for Mast Thoroughbreds, and is trained by Robert Gorham. The 4-year-old son of Instagrand was recording his fifth straight win in the $100,000, 6 furlong Best of Ohio Babst/Palacios Memorial.

Multiple leading Ohio stallion Dominus, who is the source of most of the HMDC performers, was represented by City Scene in the $100,000 Best of Ohio Diana Stakes at 6 furlongs. The Elkhorn Oaks homebred ran to her favored odds and after fighting off challengers and pulling away to be much the best for trainer James Jackson, pushing her earnings to $483,985. Congratulations to all of the winning connections. Hopefully we will meet you in the starting gate at Thistledown Saturday, August 8, when the Best of Ohio series moves north.
