Another Lofty HMDC Victory

Our accredited-bred stakes winner Lofty Cowtown (Cowtown Cat- Lofty Lizzie-Unbridled Song) stepped out of her lane and took advantage of her state-bred status and added a $15,000 bonus when she took the passing lane around the competition in her latest effort vs. open company. Coming off a determined third against similar competition, She was sent away as the favorite in the six furlong allowance with a listed purse of $28,000.

Lofty Cowtown and groom Melvin Redwood made it to the winner's circle again.

Jockey David Haldar put in a textbook ride, stalking the leader to the turn without ever being asked. He let the reins out a tad around the turn, she responded willingly and extended her stride under a confident ride. Her 2 ¼ margin of victory left trainer Megan Fadlovich very pleased and looking forward to “Lofty’s” next start, “She put up a fantastic, well rated race under Haldar! I think I've got this mare pretty well dialed in and will be pointing her to the 2X at Mahoning.” Thanks to the Ohio Thoroughbred Fund, the HMDC color bearer received a final check for $27,860. Her career earnings are now $159,410.

Smokin Jo earned stakes-placed status at Belterra Park on September 20 in the $75,000 Loyalty Stakes. The Mike Rone trainee allowed the other 2-year-olds to do all the early work and early on it looked like the right tactic as the pacesetter set a first quarter time of :21 4/5 and hit the half in :45 3/5. Smokin Jo came into the Loyalty off a winning effort with a similar running style and he launched a rally from last to swing around the field, but the heavy odds-on favorite had taken too much lead and Smokin Jo rallied determinedly for the third spot and a $7,500 check. His running style suggests he should relish longer distances when competing as a 3-year-old.

Later that Belterra program, two HMDC partners were closely connected to the $75,000 Miss Southern Ohio Stakes winner, Factisimflashy. Sold for $6,200 at auction, the now 4-year-old was bred by Steven Chumney’s Smokin C LLC . The daughter of Lightning Lucy by Giant’s Causeway was sired by Duncan Farms stallion, Corfu. Factisimflashy passed the $200,000 earning mark with her win.

HMDC’s Countess Colette kept her lifetime on-the-board record intact with a stout finish against $35,800 registered Ohio allowance company. It was one of those registered foes who was 1 to 9 and won easily, while Countess Colette closed to catch the second pacesetter at the wire.

The Mapleton Farm-bred accredited filly daughter of Medal Count out of Mobil Bonnet by Mobil now has a lifetime record of 4-1-2-1 for earnings of $36,980. Megan was pleased with her performance stating, “She broke much sharper than before and appeared to try the whole way. I think this mare will be better suited going long. We will attempt that race at Mahoning.
