2024 BEST OF OHIO SHOWS THAT THE HMDC PARTNERS KNOW HOW TOBREED AND RAISE TOP RUNNERS

Updated: Nov 25

While our colors didn’t grace the winner’s circle on Mahoning Valley’s Best of Ohio day, several horses who were bred by our team did.The $100,000 Juvenile was captured by Mapleton Farm-bred Superwolf in front-running fashion. The registered son of Instagrand-Sunshine and Silence-Speightstown was purchased privately by Marion Gorham and is trained by Robert Gorham. “We can’t keep them all, as we limit the size of our partnership each year,” spoke Dr. George Sikora from Mapleton Farm. “We weren’t about to put him in that final OTBO sale, and we feel that he’s in really good hands with Bob.”

Trainer Gorham obviously thought so highly of Superwolf, the gelding debuted in the $100,000 Best of Ohio Cleveland Kindergarten. He ran a solid race up front and settled for second behind Fortissimo. Next out, Superwolf broke his maiden by 13 lengths in the same time as the Kindergarten. His win in the Best of Ohio race broke the $100,000 earnings mark in his 4th start. The $100,000 Best of Ohio Distaff treated racing fans to one of the biggest stakes romps they will ever witness. Generous Lover was bred by Smokin C LLC and she smoked the field by a widening 26 3⁄4 lengths, extending the margin at every point of call! Now a 4-year-old, the daughter of Bolt d’Oro- Hula Skirt-Dixie Union, started her career taking on fields at Fair Grounds,

Churchill Downs and Oaklawn Park. Her connections took a gamble by entering her in a $50,000 claiming race at Churchill Downs which she won easily, but they lost her to trainer Joe Sharp. Taking advantage of her Ohio registered status, he has crossed the border to Ohio with Generous Lover four times and now has stakes wins in the Vivacious on the turf at Belterra, the 9-furlong Best of Ohio Pay the Man at Thistledown and the Best of Ohio Distaff going 1 1/8 mile at Mahoning. Her only loss inside the Buckeye borders came in a close-call neck decision against the state’s top sprinter Back to Ohio in the Scarlet and Gray. Generous Lover now sports a record of 12-6-1-2 for $319,970.
