SONS OF DOMINUS STEP INTO THE RING FOR ROUND TWO

Two HMDC, Taste of Victory and TBC Stable’s runners will square off in their 3-year-old debuts Wednesday in the 10th race at Mahoning Valley, a $31,900 Maiden Special Weight for Accredited-breds going six furlongs. Breaking side by side as posts 10 and 11, both runners have displayed early foot in their young careers, which should help from those outside posts.

Like 9 of the 12 starters, both geldings will run for the first time on Lasix. (Waiting until horses are 3 to administer this beneficial medication in non-stakes races is still a mystery to me) Rogues a Plotting will be making his second career start, he got the best of his old paddock pal in their debut and finished second. He will be listed as being trained by Penny Rone, as her husband Mike, maintains daily contact with the stable from his winter base at Oaklawn Park. Dr. Spirito, from the Megan Fadlovich stable, made a second start and improved by 11 lengths and 20 Beyer Speed Figures from his debut and certainly looks up for the challenge

on Wednesday. Dr. Spirito is a gelded son of Dominus-Love Spun-Hard Spun and will be ridden for the first time by Alexander Crispin. Rogues a Plotting is a gelded son of Dominus-Too Shy Shy-Distorted Humor and will once again have Luis Rivera in the irons. Both are products of Ohio’s leading breeder, Mapleton Farm. The bell rings for round two at 4:27 p.m.
