Stephen Chumney’s homebred Generous Lover once again is launching a bid forchampionship older horse and Ohio Horse of the Year, titles he attained in 2024. The latest notch on the 5-year-old mare’s halter came in the $75,000 Angenora Stakes at Thistledown on September 4.

Generous Lover in the hunt to a repeat as Ohio Horse of the Year.

The daughter of Bolt d’Oro-Hula Skirt-Medaglia d’Oro would be turning back to 6 furlongs, though the bulk of her success has come around two turns. Her natural speed took her to the front in the Angenora and she was challenged for a half-mile when jockey Willie Martinez asked for response and she pulled away to win by a widening 6 3⁄4 lengths. In her wake were multiple stakes winners City Scene and Candlelight Hours – two full sisters by Dominus.

With more breeder’s awards heading to Steven Chumney’s Smokin C LLC, Generous Lover now sports a career record of 18-8-4-2 for career earnings of $468,470.
