Last week we reported that Lofty Cowtown was heading to post on Tuesday in the 7th race to tackle open Allowance company at a mile with a $26,400 purse on the line. Yes, you most often face tougher company in these races – BUT – due to the Ohio Fund Program, there is $15,000 added to purse for Buckeye-breds only. There is risk, but reward, for a quality state bred. This Megan Fadlovich trainee stepped up to the task and put her best hoof forward right out of the gate. With Mauro Cedillo in the saddle, he and “Lofty” took the odds-on favorite to task from the start. Racing over a weather challenged strip labelled “Good,” the two-horse race developed early and lasted throughout. Asian Matriarch was tagged as the one to beat and brought a unique set of credentials into the race. After breaking her maiden at Del Mar fortrainer John Sadler, the Kentucky-bred Laoban mare caught the eye of others and in her 20-race career had been claimed six times while racing at seven tracks! “Lofty” and her well-travelled foe turned it into a two-horse race with Cedillo edging her in front by 1 1⁄2 lengths as they stayed away from a dead rail in the three-path into the stretch. The odds-on favorite went a tad wider and eventually passed our accredited Mapleton-bred in the lane, with “Lofty” a clear second over the rest of the field. She didn’t get the $15,000 Buckeye Bonus, but she did make the stable proud by pushing her bankroll to $207,732 with a record of 21-6-4-3. A well-deserved tip of the cap to trainer Megan Fadlovich who has done a standout job navigating the career of Lofty Cowtown, which includes stakes win and second along the way.
